Lila and Brendan August Update!

Lila and Brendan have been getting bigger and more grown up by the day.
Brendan is walking all over the place, showing off by bending over to pick things up and then getting back up and walking away. He is coordinated and a definte climber.
Lila is a great walker but a selective one. She prefers to hang out and observe or follow her brother crawling until it is really necessary to get up - like to get a toy or retrieve some food so he doesn't hog it all.
Both babies had their one year doctor's appointment last week and did great. The doctor was impressed with how well they were walking, pointing, using sounds and words and just their sweet personalitites. They smiled and showed off for the doctor during the entire appointment! Brendan weighed in at 28 pounds and Lila was 23 pounds - both are tall and perfect.
As usual, Meg and Tim are doing everything right.
The babies just stopped taking most of their bottles and are drinking real milk with their meals. They moved into their bigger, more comfortable car seats and love them - they are higher than the carriers so you can see their little heads checking everything out.
Both babies are getting used to table foods as they eat much less baby food and more people food. Brendan and Lila both love pasta, fresh fruit, beans, mac and cheese, crackers, goldfish and anything else that people will share with them. They are terrific eaters for the most part although Meg and Tim haven't moved onto meats yet so we'll see how that goes with their vegetarian aunts and grammy.
Lila and Brendan had another first this week when they took their first trip to the zoo. Auntie Kasey, Uncle B, Peter, Molly, Annie, Lizzie and Ellie all came along to enjoy their first experience and we had a blast. We went to Forest Park Zoo in Springfield!
Ready for the zoo!

The whole gang!

Lila was cooing and talking to the monkeys - it was adorable!

Bird took a few minutes to warm up to the animals!

Mama and her little monkey!

Annie snuck into Auntie's stroller so she could be with Brendan.

The Black bears!

Lila loved sticking her head through and smiling!

How fun does this look?
Uncle B and his princess!

Brendan started really getting into it when he could get right up close to the animals.

The donkey was everyone's favorite because he came over to the fence and hung out with us.

The train ride!

Molly and Brendan bonded on the train ride - they were so sweet!

Lizzie and her godmother!

Big B and Little B!

Brendan loved the playscape.

And the slide!

Wrong way Lila!

Brendan is strong enough to use his toes and hands to get to the top of the slide all by himself - too funny!
We had a great day at the zoo and I think Brendan and Lila ar going to be animal kids! They had a blast!

What a difference a year makes!

There is no way that we could have imagined how different life would be once Lila and Brendan came along. Meg and Tim have had to be flexible and easy going this year dealing with formulas, diapers, reflux, sleep deprivation and the constant flow of  people in and out of their home wanting to spend time with the babies.....and them! All of that ard work has paid off because Lila and Brendan are bright, happy, affectionate babies with sweet personalities. They clearly know they are loved by many!
Happy 1st Birthday, Lila and Brendan!
We are so happy that you were born!

There are, naturally, 150 pictures of the Lila and Brendan's 1st Birthday party down at the beach house and once Meg gets a look at them I will post every single one!
